The Manouche Jazz Quartet captures the essence of the Hot Club de France, giving new voice to the legacy of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Bringing class and charisma to the scene, the band is a new chapter in the narrative of gypsy jazz.
The Manouche Jazz Quartet

MJQ is a Devon-based gypsy jazz outfit with style. Atmosphere, romance, virtuosity – it’s in the bag.
With roots in the timeless repertoire of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli’s Hot Club De France, we have a hand in jazz styles spanning a century. We give vintage classics a new outing, calling on the contemporary nuances of the Rosenberg Trio, Bireli Lagrene and Florin Niculescu.
As well as our two deft guitarists, who alternate the lead and rhythm responsibilities, and the traditional Double Bass, MJQ provides the "Grappelli" magic through the rich, versatile sound of a classically trained violinist. The result is an ability to provide a generous range of music, that includes jazz classics, bossa novas, swings, contemporary ballads and the occasional flinty-eyed tango.
A full studio album is on its way – in the meantime, you can hear some examples of our style at the bottom of this page.
The MJQ is available for stages and fine eateries, private and corporate functions, weddings and civil ceremonies and, frankly, any audience you want to impress.
